Description:

The Oracle8i Networking class will enable students to identify networking business trends and problems. Oracle8i's networking solutions to the business problems and trends will be presented. Students will learn about Net8 components and will learn how to configure both a simple and more complex Net8 environment. Potential networking security risks and Oracle8i's optional security solutions to these issues will be presented. Net8 debugging tools and interpretation of debugging information will be covered. Most common errors and how to troubleshoot an Oracle networking environment will be covered.

This course is designed to prepare you for the corresponding Oracle Certified Professional exam: Exam #1Z0-026.


Prerequisites:

Introduction to Oracle: SQL and PL/SQL
Oracle8i Database Architecture and Administration
Oracle8i Backup and Recovery

Course Objectives:

Analyze and troubleshoot Net8 problems using log files, trace files, and Trace Assistant
Configure a simple client and server, and establish a connection between them
Configure and start a Names server and use it to resolve a service name
Configure and startup a Multithreaded server
Define the Net8 architectural layers
Identify network security risks and their solutions, and configure data encryption using the Advanced Networking Option
Identify network trends and problems, and provide solutions for them
Configure the Connection Manager, and use it for pooling connections and restricting clients from connecting

Identifying the key components of Net8 architecture and their interaction
Defining the procedure by which Net8 establishes a server connection
Defining the layers of Net8

Basic Net8 Server-Side Configuration
Configuring Net8 listener.ora file
Starting the Net8 listener using Listener Control utility
Stopping the Net8 listener using Listener Control utility
Identifying additional Listener Control commands
Configuring listener load balancing
Configuring Service and Instance Naming

Basic Net8 Client-Side Configuration
Configuring the Net8 client side using the HOSTNAME method
Configuring Net8 client side files using the TNSNAMES method
Configuring Net8 client using Service and Instance names and connecting to the configured listener
Using Net8 Assistant to configure the client side
